Doll or Puppet?

Well sadly my Russian is non existent and I didn't want to try the babblefish thing. I found this nice site with some interesting puppets (dolls).
There is some interesting flash animations as well. This stuff seems perfect for stop motion.

Click on the title above "Doll or Puppet?" to go to the page then after the Flash loads Click on the little guy with the bird cage to see the dolls. There's a great old world feel to the craftsmanship and style.

Incredible stuff. I too have found some amazing Eastern Block doll/puppet works. What do you suppose goes on over THERE that allows so much talent to flourish?

I don't know what it is. I guess the traditional puppet, handmade doll, and a history of stopmotion animation all blended into the culture. Percolate for a hundred years and that's what you get.

Yes I think gvozdariki does an especially nice job with the clothing.
I wish I had some idea of the scale of the puppets - sorry "dolls". If they are under 10" its even more amazing work.
Check out the links page on his site, there is some other cool stuff there too.

I found this link on his page

http://scary.ru/

Which led me to this link

http://www.strangedolls.net/dollprofiles/chimneysweep1.html

and on it goes.
